Who Is The Rt.Rev. Barnabas Tibaijuka, Bishop Of West Ruwenzori Diocese?

Bishop Barnabas Tibaijuka is the son of the late Rev. Timiseo Weddime, born on 8th May 1975, in Bundibugyo District. As a priest's son, he experienced a nomadic life due to his father's transfers and is the youngest among his siblings. Raised in the church, his early years showcased his diverse talents in sports, excelling as a footballer, athlete, and musician, skills that often spared him from school disciplinary actions.

He attended Bubandi Primary School for four years, then Butiti Primary School, and returned to Bubandi for his primary leaving examinations. His secondary education unfolded at Semiliki High School in Bundibugyo, where a pivotal incident with Bwamba Missioners marked a significant turning point in his life.

After completing S.4 in 1995, Barnabas pursued training as a lay leader but faced denial, leading him to become a grade 3 teacher in 1998 after accomplishing his studies in a teacher’s training college. In 2002, he became a caretaker headteacher at Kukoka primary school while studying at NTC Mubende, earning a diploma in Education in 2005. Subsequently, he served as a catechist before marrying Alice Tibaijuka.

In 2008, a renewed calling to church ministry led him to Uganda Christian University Mukono for an ordination course. He engaged in leadership activities, serving as a minister of Education and Sports in the Guild government. Furthering his education, he earned a master's degree in Education leadership and policy studies from Mountains of the Moon University in 2014.

Choosing to focus on church ministry, he undertook a significant role in a parish with 13 daughter churches, achieving remarkable infrastructure development amidst a crisis of limited resources. In 2023, he was elected as the 1st Bishop of the Diocese of West Ruwenzori, expressing a desire to enhance clergy capabilities, promote environmental conservation, eradicate poverty, and foster youth engagement in the church.

Bishop Tibaijuka emphasizes his gratitude to God, acknowledging his journey from humble beginnings. Reflecting on his personal transformation, he recounts a turning point inspired by a message from the book of Revelation, prompting him to accept Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

Married to Alice Tibaijuka, they have seven children that is Asinguza Gloria, Agnes Mbabazi Taremwa, Jolly Fortunate, Mary Asiimwe, Timothy Weddime Makune, Edith Atuhaye, Aijuka Barnabas Twongirwe and he attributes the success of their marriage to the principles of love, tolerance, and forgiveness. Bishop Tibaijuka looks forward to leading West Ruwenzori to become one of Uganda's greatest Dioceses, focusing on environmental conservation, poverty eradication, youth engagement in the church and so much more.

Bishop Tibaijuka’s life is a true testament to the power of perseverance and hard work. Despite facing numerous obstacles, he remained committed to his goals and continued to pursue his dreams.
