Deputy Speaker Backs Probe On Homosexuality
Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa has backed a move by the Minster of Education Sports Janet Museveni, who is also the First Lady to launch an investigation into the allegations of homosexuality in schools.
According to Tayebwa, many children have been suffering in silence and there is need to get to the roots of the matter to save Ugandan children from the vice.
In his communication to the House, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa told MPs that he had spoken to a student who said that at his school, fellow students were studying in fear and could not walk at night for fear of being accosted by homosexuals.
According to Tororo District Woman MP Sarah Achieng Opendi, allegations of homosexuality in schools have been there for years. He asked the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Devt to investigate some NGOs which he said are the promoters of the vice. She was backed by Workers MP Charles Bakkalubulindi.
Meanwhile, some MPs also claimed that bullying was rampant in schools. They asked the Speaker to set up a select committee to investigate the matter.
