Church of Uganda's Directorate of Household and Community Transformation (HCT) Coordinators, currently on a benchmarking and learning visit in Nairobi, Kenya, were addressed this morning by the Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Kenya, The Most Rev. Dr. Jackson Ole Sapit. The Archbishop's address focused on the importance of stewardship in community transformation.

"Community transformation can be achieved in wholesomeness with Jesus in the heart, the right knowledge in the mind (head), and hands that work to put food and money on the table. This wholesomeness can be done through investment in human capital, financial capital, infrastructure capital, and natural capital," Archbishop Sapit stated.

Archbishop Sapit emphasized the need to achieve wholesomeness before making these investments, as they work hand in hand. He also highlighted the importance of growing resources to support ministry work independently, rather than expecting Christians to give.

"The Anglican Church of Kenya supports its parishes through the investments they have. Social transformation and mission work go hand in hand; we cannot separate spiritual mission from wholesome transformation. We need the right knowledge to multiply resources, produce enough, and ensure others follow. The only transformation we need in every generation is what they have left for the next generation. So, what have we left for the next HCT officers who will come after us?" Archbishop asked.

In his opening remarks, Rev. Canon William Ongeng, the Provincial Secretary of Church of Uganda, emphasized that the delegation aims to learn from the successful models of community transformation and agribusiness management implemented by the Anglican Church of Kenya.

"This visit is a great opportunity for our officers to learn from successful models of community transformation and agribusiness management. By collaborating with CORAT Africa and ADS, we hope to bring back valuable knowledge that will enhance our community programs," said Rev. Canon William Ongeng.

The visit continues with various sessions and capacity-building activities aimed at equipping Church of Uganda HCT Coordinators with the knowledge and skills needed for effective community transformation.

The team now heads to Eastern Kenya to visit different Anglican Development Service (ADS) projects.

The delegation from Church of Uganda is comprised of 41 members including Diocesan HCT Coordinators and some Provincial Secretariat Staff.
