LUKE ALINAITWE
Tragedy struck the community of Kiteezi when a massive garbage pile collapsed, claiming 35 lives and leaving many others injured. Numerous households have been displaced and are currently sheltering at Kiteezi COU Primary School.
Many compassionate individuals and organizations have visited the camp to offer support. Among the visitors was the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Prime Minister, Rt. Rev. Moses Banja, and today, a team from Namirembe Diocese, led by Ven. Mazinga Kiwanuka, the Archdeacon of Gayaza, also paid a visit.
Today a team from Namirembe Diocese paid a visit to the victims of Kiteezi landfill collapse who camped at Kiteezi COU Primary school playgrounds.
The team was led by the Archdeacon of Gayaza Ven. Dunstan Mazinga Kiwanuka who noted during his address that the visit is to comfort and console the affected victims.
He appealed to the affected to be strong and assured them that what they were going through was not the end of life.
Ven. DUNSTAN further urged government leaders to be cautious because some incidents are avoidable if proper guidelines are followed.
Part of those who went to visit the victims was the Namirembe Diocese Mothers Union President who while speaking to the media noted the poor state of those living in the tents.
She appealed to the government to take on an initiative to have ready camps constructed for temporary settlements in case a disaster happens.
