The government, through the office of the prime minister, has started implementing its program to restock cattle in the Northern and Eastern regions in areas like Lango, Acholi, and Teso. Alex Kakooza, permanent secretary in the OPM, revealed that this will help those affected by wars who had their cattle looted.

This program was introduced by President Museveni in the month of November, and they resolved that each household will be given 5 cows, including 2 heifers and 3 female calves, so they can restock what they lost and also lift themselves out of poverty. This will be done over a long period of time.

Alex Kakooza, the permanent secretary in the office of the prime minister, revealed that the government has started implementing its program to restock cattle in the Northern and Eastern regions, like Acholi, Lango, and Teso. Those who were affected by wars and had their cattle looted will, per household, be given five million shillings to buy cattle.

Eight billion shillings will be used to compensate 16,000 households, prioritising those of the elderly, people with special needs and abductees. Kakooza said local leaders will be involved in the process to properly select the right people.

He added and said they have so far registered 11,504 eligible households.

They have called village leaders to do this work of selecting or properly verifying these people to ensure they are genuine and not just relying on rumours or false claims.

Beneficiaries were warned not to put their signature on any document before their money is issued to them.

Kakooza noted the possible benefits of the cows in question, saying the waste products from them are great fertilisers for their crops, since most are involved in farming.
