Rev. Canon Dr. Francis Omondi Etieno Consecrated as Bishop of Galisa at All Saints' Cathedral, Nairobi

NAIROBI, May 9, 2025 — The Anglican Church of Kenya celebrated a landmark spiritual milestone today with the consecration of Rev. Canon Dr. Francis Omondi Etieno as Bishop of Galisa. The solemn ceremony took place at All Saints' Cathedral, Nairobi, and was presided over by the Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Kenya, The Most Rev Dr. Jackson N. Ole Sapit, alongside several other bishops.

Canon Omondi, previously serving as a Canon at All Saints' Cathedral in Kampala Diocese, is acclaimed for his unwavering commitment to church planting, evangelism, and teaching. His ministry is deeply rooted in reaching marginalized, persecuted, and hard-to-access communities, earning him widespread respect within the Anglican community. He has also played pivotal roles in leading ordination and spiritual retreats within the Diocese of Kampala.

Representing Kampala at the consecration were The Rt. Rev. Fredrick Jackson Baalwa and a team including Rev. Canon Capt. David Serunjoji, Rev. Susan Ahumuza Ameso, Rev. Shem Nsubuga, Rev. James Arinda, and Mrs. Beatrice Arinda.

The highlight of the event was the inspiring sermon delivered by Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph Wandera, Bishop of Mumias. Drawing from John 21:15-19, Bishop Wandera posed a reflective question to the new Bishop-elect: "Francis, son of Etieno, do you love me? Feed my sheep." He emphasized that authentic shepherds serve with love, care, and humility—nurturing, healing, and guiding without abuse of authority.

"God does not call us to elevate ourselves; He calls us to serve. A shepherd must lead with compassion, ensuring the flock is well-fed and protected," Bishop Wandera affirmed.

Canon Omondi’s consecration aligns with the Church’s ongoing mission to reach diverse and often underserved communities across Kenya and beyond. His dedication to evangelism and discipleship promises to strengthen the church’s outreach and spiritual growth.
