Rotary Club Launches UGX 4 Billion Cancer Fight Campaign and Calls for Community Action

Rotary Club Boosts Cancer Fight in Uganda with UGX 4 Billion, Urges Public to Join Annual Cancer Run
The Rotary Club of Kampala Life Stars has stepped up its efforts to combat cancer across Uganda with a significant financial boost and a nationwide call to action. This year, the Rotary movement plans to inject UGX 4 billion into its ongoing cancer initiatives, aiming to enhance treatment, increase awareness, and promote early detection.
Organized in partnership with other Rotary clubs, the annual Rotary Cancer Run remains at the heart of this campaign. The event serves as a vital platform to mobilize resources and educate communities about cancer prevention and support for survivors.
Uganda continues to face challenges posed by cancer, prompting Rotary leaders to emphasize the importance of community engagement alongside government efforts. Geoffrey M. Kitakule, District Governor of Rotary District 9214, underscored the need for collective responsibility, urging Ugandans to participate actively in the fight.
Rotarian Dr. Patricia Achan Okiria of Rotary Kampala highlighted Rotary’s broader impact on national development, noting that the organization invests considerably in key sectors such as health and education to strengthen social infrastructure.
Yedida Nyakato, president of Rotary Kampala, called on all Ugandans to take part in this year's Cancer Run and to recognize that cancer risk affects everyone. She emphasized that community participation is essential in raising funds, fostering awareness, and supporting early detection efforts.
The Rotary Cancer Run is more than just a fundraising event—it’s a movement designed to raise awareness, support cancer survivors, and promote early detection and treatment across Uganda. As the campaign gains momentum, Rotary remains committed to making a tangible difference in the fight against cancer nationwide.
