UCU Graduates Over 900 Students In Second 24th Graduation Ceremony

Uganda Christian University (UCU), has today held the second part of the 24th graduation ceremony, with 986 graduates conferred with degrees and awards of diplomas.

The Archbishop Emeritus, Rt. Rev. Dr. Henry Luke Orombi, who was the chief guest at the ceremony, emphasized service above self to the graduates as they explored the job market.

The university Chancellor alias the Archbishop of COU, The Most Rev. Dr Stephen Kazimba Mugalu urged the congregation at large to fully use technology, as they promote gender balance in society.

The graduation ceremony was held at the university’s main campus in Mukono, under the theme, “Heed to the truth we have heard, lest we drift away” from the book of Hebrew 2:1.

It was a blissful Friday Morning at UCU’s Recreation grounds in Mukono as the institution saw graduands accompanied by their parents, guardians, friends and relatives arrive to witness the fruits of their hard work.

The 986 graduates composed of 527 (54%) females and 459 (46%) males received awards in Masters's, postgraduate diplomas, bachelor’s degrees and diplomas.

The ceremony was graced by several delegates including religious leaders, and some legislators.

It was noted that 33 of the 986 graduands obtained first-class degrees, with Ninsiima Precious Claire as the overall best student managing a cumulative grade point average of 4.76, and 5 received Masters's Degrees.

The Rt. Rev. Dr Henry Luke Orombi, who was the guest of honour, applauded the graduands for the work invested in achieving their different academic awards.

He also advised them to always put others before themselves, as they go into the job market to serve the nation in their field of qualification.

Archbishop Emeritus Orombi encouraged parents to continue giving a helping hand and support to their children, as he called on the graduands to put God first in all they do, emphasizing patience.

The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda who also doubles as the UCU chancellor, The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kazimba Mugalu expressed disapproval of the suggestion earlier put forth by some Ministry of Health officials to have girls from the age of 15 and above, use contraceptives, saying it will promote immorality.

The chancellor also advocated for a balanced focus on both boys and girls in society, and the promotion of equality to fight the gender-based vices.

He also advised graduands to embrace the merits that come with social media and use them to graciously impact the country.

The chairperson of the University Council, Rt. Rev. Prof. Alfred Olwa called on graduands to remain ethically upright, reminding them that they can only succeed in getting a job because of their skills but lose it because of bad character.

With the noticeable gap between the rise of the girl child and focus presented to them more than the boys, we had responses on how this can be addressed before it gets out of hand.

Some of the graduands express what their achievements meant to them.
