This has been revealed by Yusufu Masaba, the communications officer at Petroleum Authority of Uganda after the Katikiro of Buganda raised a concern of how the locals in Bunyoro and Buganda can use the oil developments to boost their income.
Katikiro says that Agriculture is particularly important because Kabalega Airport will be handling big aeroplanes coming in and out of Uganda.
Yusufu noted that the study is being undertaken by The Economic Policy Research Centre adding that once the report is out it is going to guide the government to know how much is needed to invest in Agriculture, health, tourism and other sectors.
He has noted that the aspect of linking oil and other sectors of the economy is expected to generate up to $8bn for the country.
However, Masaba believes it’s not too late for the study because the airport is not yet fully complete.
Meanwhile, Katikiro Mayiga noted that it is important to get oil out, allaying fears of environmental destruction against promoters of the negative effects of the East African Crude Oil pipeline on the Environment.
Katikiro Mayiga adds that the exploration of Uganda’s oil has even been delayed, however, he was impressed by the works currently going on.
Mayiga is undertaking a three-day guided field visit to the oil and gas project sites in the Bunyoro region.
The field visit is being coordinated by the petroleum authority of Uganda.
Uganda has up to 6.5 billion barrels of oil with up to 1.5 billion barrels recoverable or commercially viable.
