A Dedicated Leader: Parliament Eulogizes The Late Hon. Simon Aleper

Legislators and NRM Central Executive Committee Members have Eulogized the Late Hon. Simon Peter Aleper, who was the Vice Chairperson of NRM in the Karamoja Sub-Region as a hardworking, headstrong, and prominent politician in the development of the Karamoja sub region and NRM Political Party.

This was during the special sitting of Parliament held today to Pay tribute to the Late Hon. who Passed away on Tuesday 23d July 2024 in a Fatal Road Accident.

The late Hon. Simon Peter Aleper, former vice chairperson of NRM in the Karamoja sub-region who also doubled as the former Moroto municipality legislator of the 9th parliament was on Tuesday 23rd July 2024 involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident along the Iganga-Tirinyi highway.

at parliament today, the prime minister, rt. hon. robinah Nabbanja, and her deputy, Thomas Tayebwa, alongside legislators and NRM central executive committee (CEC) members, received the body of the late Hon. Simon Peter Aleper.

After adjourning yesterday's plenary session and rescheduling it for July 30, 2024, legislators were notified of a special sitting today to honour the late Hon. Aleper with tributes.

The prime minister, RT. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja who also doubles as the head of government business moved the motion for a parliament resolution to pay tribute to the late Hon. Aleper.

“BE IT RESOLVED THAT PARLIAMENT……TO MOVE”

The members, including the vice president H.E. Maj Gen Alupo Jessica, eulogized the late Hon. as a hardworking and influential politician who significantly developed the Karamoja sub region and the NRM political party.

They also emphasized the necessity for improved road systems and reliable healthcare to assist individuals involved in road crashes.

The late Hon. Simon Peter Aleper, born on December 26, 1974, was a member of the NRM CEC executive committee, serving as vice chairperson for the Karamoja region at the time of his passing.

He also held notable positions within international organizations, including serving as a program officer for the United Nations and World Vision International, among others.

Aleper was a prominent figure in Karamoja politics, having represented Moroto municipality as a member of parliament from 2011 to 2016. Despite a brief break, he contested again in 2021 but was defeated by Francis Adome Lorika. He will be laid to rest at his ancestral home in Kangole town council, Napak district.
