The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development has apologized to Ugandans for the ongoing power outages affecting different parts of the country, saying the interruptions are a result of critical investments to strengthen the national electricity network. Speaking at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala, Energy Minister Dr. Monicah Musenero Masanza said the upgrades are intended to improve electricity reliability, expand access to power, and support Uganda's industrial growth.

The minister acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the power interruptions and apologized for inadequate communication, assuring the public that the ministry will provide timely updates whenever planned maintenance or network interventions are undertaken.

According to the Ministry, the current outages have been caused by ongoing transmission upgrades, rising electricity demand, overloaded substations, aging infrastructure, routine maintenance, and vandalism of electricity installations.

The Ministry says these investments are already improving network performance through more reliable power supply for industrial consumers, reduced system losses, and quicker response to faults. Additional electricity meters and essential materials have also been secured to speed up new customer connections and service restoration.

Consumers have been urged to report faults through official UEDCL customer care channels and warned against making payments to individuals claiming to facilitate electricity connections or meter installations.

She further appealed to Ugandans to cooperate during planned maintenance, protect electricity infrastructure, and report acts of vandalism, warning that damage to power installations delays restoration and increases operational costs.

The minister also thanked Ugandans for their patience and continued support as the government implements long-term investments to strengthen the country's electricity network.

According to the Ministry of Energy, the ongoing upgrades are laying the foundation for a stronger, more reliable electricity network that will expand access to power, support industrialization, and drive Uganda's long-term economic development.
