A Prayer to Not Stress at Easter
As we usher in the joyous season of Easter, it's easy to be swept away by the flurry of preparations. In the Gospel of Luke, we find this familiar scene involving Martha and Mary: "But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, ‘Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!’ ‘Martha, Martha,’ the Lord answered, ‘you are worried and upset about many things ... but few things are needed — or indeed ... only one. Mary has chosen what is better ... and it will not be taken away from her.” — Luke 10:40-42.
Finding Focus Amid the Rush
During this vibrant season, we often find ourselves juggling tasks—preparing family feasts, decorating our homes, and organizing activities for children. While these duties are important, they can quickly become overwhelming. The anticipation of Easter can morph into anxiety, and we may become so consumed with our to-do lists that we forget the heart of the celebration: the death and resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Easter is a profound time to reflect on our redemption, salvation, and the incredible gift of forgiveness through Christ’s sacrifice (Ephesians 1:7). Amid the hustle and bustle, it’s vital to remember that the essence of the season lies not in how we prepare but in how we worship.
Choosing What Matters
Instead of succumbing to the stress of preparations, we are invited to follow the example of Mary, who chose to sit at Jesus’ feet and worship Him. She recognized that being in His presence was far more important than completing her tasks. This Easter, let us strive to do the same.
If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed, take a moment to pause. Disentangle yourself from your busyness, silence the distractions, and seek the peace found only in God. Take time to reflect, pray, and embrace His presence. After all, it's not our efforts but His grace that brings true joy and fulfillment.
A Prayer for Peace
Dear Lord,
In this season of celebration, I often find myself feeling like Martha, tangled in the worries of my tasks. I ask for Your help as I navigate this busy time. I recognize that I can become too focused on preparations and miss the opportunity to be with You.
Help me to be like Mary, who prioritized Your presence above all else. Remind me that all I truly need is to sit at Your feet, worship You, and acknowledge the gift of this season.
Please calm my anxious heart and fill me with Your peace. Help me to remember that the essence of Easter is found in You—Your love, sacrifice, and the hope of Your resurrection. Thank You for blessing me with the chance to rest in You and experience the fullness of Your grace.
In Your precious name, Jesus, I pray, Amen.
