ANT Chief Gen. Muntu Says Change Will Come Soon
The opposition Alliance for Transformation (ANT) party has urged Ugandans who want change in the country's leadership not to despair but have hope because that change can happen at any time.
The party’s National Coordinator Retired Maj. Gen Mugisha Muntu and other party leaders made the call while addressing a press conference in regard to the recently concluded Serere County by-election, and other issues of national importance. According to the ANT, the Serere by-election was not free and fair.
The Deputy National Coordinator of the Alliance for Transformation (ANT), Alice Alaso was a candidate in the just concluded Serere County by-election where she emerged a distant third with over 3,000 votes. The winner, Emmanuel Omoding, an Independent candidate, garnered over 15,000 votes. According to Alaso, the by-election was neither free nor fair and she doubted the ability of the current Electoral Commission to conduct a credible process.
However, the ANT party National Coordinator, Rtd. Maj. Gen Mugisha Muntu urged change-seeking Ugandans should not to lose hope because the situation changes at any time and the party will do whatever it takes to make Uganda a better place
According to Gen. Muntu, members of the opposition who think that negotiations can cause political change should first create leverage because, without that, the government may see no need for talks and therefore have no drive
The senior ANT officials also spoke out on the Karamoja iron sheets saga where several ministers are accused of diverting for personal use, iron sheets mean for vulnerable Karamojong people. They noted that the government has not taken action against culprits in previous scandals.
ANT asked the appointing authority, President Yoweri Museveni, to either remove the accused ministers or they should resign on their own as investigations continue.
On the issue of one Eri Mwesigwa who claimed that he was kidnapped and tortured by members of the National Unity Platform party, Gen. Muntu said that was part of government schemes to mislead the people and make them think that the opposition is bad. He urged the army to let the police investigate the matter.
