Archbishop Kaziimba Calls for Peace, Integrity, and Environmental Stewardship in Easter Message
In a vibrant Easter Sunday service held at All Saints' Cathedral in Kampala, The Most Rev. Dr. Samuel Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu, Archbishop of the Church of Uganda and Bishop of the Diocese of Kampala, delivered a powerful sermon centered on the theme “Jesus' Resurrection: Our Hope for Eternity,” referencing 1 Corinthians 15.
Addressing a congregation of thousands, Archbishop Kaziimba emphasized that the resurrection of Jesus is not only foundational to Christian faith but also serves as a profound source of hope for both the present and future. With compelling testimony, he noted that Jesus made physical appearances to people more than ten times after His resurrection, reinforcing the truth of His living presence.
"Eternal life is available to those who accept Jesus Christ as their Savior," the Archbishop proclaimed, encouraging believers to intentionally welcome the risen Christ into their lives.
He challenged Ugandans to consider the tangible implications of eternal life, asserting that it begins on Earth through actions such as caring for the environment and treating others with dignity and respect.
"You can’t talk about eternal life when there is violence in politics, character assassination, and blackmail," he lamented, addressing the societal issues that obstruct peace and harmony. He urged the faithful to be havens of peace and ambassadors of human dignity.
In a passionate denunciation of corruption, Archbishop Kaziimba characterized the vice not just as a legal or governance issue but as a spiritual condition rooted in greed and selfishness. He called for collective commitment to integrity and accountability across all aspects of life.
Highlighting the significance of environmental stewardship, he encouraged the congregation to participate in meaningful actions such as tree planting, avoiding litter, and engaging in community clean-up efforts.
He also appealed for continued financial support for crucial church initiatives, including contributions toward the acquisition of Plot 8 behind the cathedral, aimed at alleviating parking challenges and serving as a future home for diocesan offices. Additionally, the archbishop called for donations to the Pension House Project in Bugolobi, which will support retired clergy and other ministry needs.
In his closing remarks, Archbishop Kaziimba reminded the congregation that the resurrection of Jesus Christ is the foundation of eternal hope, urging all to reject corruption, live in harmony with God and one another, and be beacons of light in their communities.
