Archbishop Kazimba Hails Ankole Diocese For Engaging In Income Generating Projects
The 9th archbishop of the church of Uganda-The Most Rev Dr Stephen Samuel Kazimba Mugalu has hailed the diocese of Ankole under the leadership of Associate Professor Fred Sheldon Mwesigwa for investing in what he termed as great income-generating projects.
The archbishop challenged other churches and dioceses to benchmark in Ankole diocese and emulate the projects which he said will help them to sustain themselves.
Archbishop made the comments yesterday when he was visiting the Ankole diocese as they celebrated five years of the existence of Revival Radio since its inception.
On the same day, he opened Ankole diocese Millenium SACCO 2012 regional offices in Mbarara City. The two events which attracted thousands of Christians were graced by Rt.Rev.George Turyasingura, the bishop of East Rwenzori diocese asked Christians to give their life to Jesus.
Archbishop hailed Bishop Sheldon Mwesigwa for the vision of starting a radio and a SACCO which have progressed very far and offering good services to Ugandans.
In his speech, Bishop Sheldon Mwesigwa thanked the Archbishop for supporting the growth of his diocese and explained that the opened regional office will coordinate 8 branches including the Kampala branch, he said the SACCO has a loan portfolio of shs26 billion.
He said the SACCO has already helped many institutions including churches who borrowed money for development and insisted their SACCO doesn’t discriminate against religions.
Fred chairman board of Ankole diocese millennium SACCO asked the Archbishop to support them in starting a commercial bank. Tumwine said if all SACCOs under the church of Uganda can join together they can form one unit and establish a strong commercial bank.
Ankole Diocese Millennium SACCO established in 2012 has a membership of 24933, a loan portfolio of over shs25 billion, with shares over shs6 billion and over Shs 2billion gross profit.
Bishop Mwesigwa also informed the Archbishop that the budget which runs the whole diocesan budget is local and 20% of it comes from projects they have established, not including the Millenium SACCO 2012.
