Belated Kisoro Women's Day Celebrations

Belated Kisoro Women's Day Celebrations

The Bukimbiri County Member of Parliament, Eddie Kwizera Wagahungu has appealed to the government to fulfill its promises to citizens and not have them live on false hope.

He made the remarks during the belated Kisoro District Women’s Day Celebrations on 9th March 2023 at the Saaza grounds in Kisoro Municipality.

According to Hon. Kwizera, the government should not commit itself to things it cannot do for the citizens. He noted that when President Yoweri Museveni visited Kisoro two years ago, he promised to pardon former police chief, Gen. Kale Kayihura but that is yet to happen.

According to Bukimbiri MP Eddie Kwizera, some of the unfulfilled presidential pledges to Kisoro district is the construction of the Kalekyezi Institute of Science and Technology, and the construction of tourism roads, among others.

He also noted with concern that residents of Kisoro district are not happy to have two non-functional border posts with Rwanda yet they were key sources of employment.

Honorable Kwizera also noted that the Parish Development Model, a government program aimed at boosting household income poverty is not being implemented as planned. He proposed special consideration for women in accessing the PDM funds.

The State Minister for Disability Affairs, Hellen Grace Asamo who was the chief guest at the Kisoro Women’s day celebrations said the delay in releasing PDM funds is a big concern and promised to engage the authorities to release the funds.

The minister advised men in Kisoro district to desist from polygamous marriages so that they may have the income to develop their families and also spoke out against domestic violence.
