
Bishop Luwalira Bids Mengo Ss Farewell
Today, the bishop of Namirembe diocese, the Rt. Rev. Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira has announced his retirement from office as bishop ahead of 8 December 2023.
During his last final visit to Mengo secondary school, Rt. Rev. Luwalira encouraged the students to be open to taking on opportunities, for they never know what God has for them.
This was at the farewell ceremony held at Mengo SS, one of the institutions that lie under his lead.
It was a jovial afternoon at Mengo SS as the congregation awaited the arrival of the bishop of Namirembe diocese, Rt. Rev. Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira.
The activities lined up for the day included: a farewell gathering, confirmation service for 187 students across all classes, and the launch of a new building. This, also, was the bishop’s last pastoral visit to the school.
At exactly 1:54 pm, the bishop made his entrance into the school in the company of his wife, Faith Luwalira, where they were welcomed by the school band, students, staff and other religious delegates.
Giving a farewell speech, the head teacher, Grace Nantagya appreciated the bishop’s works and achievements registered.
The bishop encouraged students to be open-minded to opportunities availed to them, and acknowledge the supremacy of God as the most high.
He also provided guidelines on how students should live on a daily, as they aim for better things in future.
He went on to officiate the confirmation of 187 students at the school and blessed the school's complete and pending building projects.
Mengo SS was founded and is owned by Namirembe Diocese, Church of Uganda. The current chairman of the Foundation body is Rt. Rev. Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira whose 14 years in service as bishop of Namirembe diocese started on 31 May 2009 will end in December this year as he clocks 65 years of age which according to the COU calls for retirement from the seat of a Bishop.
