Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe Honors Former Deans at Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyasano
Kinyasano, April 13, 2025 – In a heartfelt ceremony held on Sunday, Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe recognized the dedicated service of former deans at Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyasano. This event not only celebrated the contributions of these leaders but also served as a poignant reminder of the importance of faith in Christ above all.
Among those honored were Rev. Canon Dr. Jackson Kabahikyeho, Rev. Canon Fred Tumusiime, Rev. Canon Shedrach Muhumuza, Rev. Canon Herbert Sabiiti, Rev. Canon Geoffrey Mutabazi, and Rev. Canon Eric Baingana Mugyenzi. Each was presented with an accolade and a token of appreciation amounting to one million Ugandan shillings. In addition, Counsel Isaac Atukunda, the Deputy Diocesan Chancellor, bestowed an extra five hundred thousand shillings to be shared equally among the honorees.
Bishop Asiimwe expressed gratitude to the pilgrims for their unwavering commitment to the Namugongo pilgrimages while emphasizing the necessity of placing faith in Christ rather than in the martyrs themselves. His sermon, inspired by Matthew 21:1-11, underscored that Jesus is the true King worthy of praise, contrasting him with those who may claim to be saviors but ultimately fall short. "Every alternative savior takes early retirement," he stated, reminding congregants to honor God with their bodies as temples of the Holy Spirit.
The bishop further urged the faithful to cleanse their lives and receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, paralleling this call with Jesus’ cleansing of the temple in Jerusalem. He encouraged church leaders to continuously recognize the contributions of those who have served before them, fostering a culture of gratitude within the church community.
Other dignitaries who attended the ceremony included the Very Rev. Amatsiko Niwegariho, Dean of Emmanuel Cathedral; Mr. Abel Turyabe Matita, Diocesan Head of Laity; and various coordinators from the diocesan offices.
The event was a fitting tribute to dedicated service within the church, reinforcing the values of faith, recognition, and the importance of a united community.
