Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe Urges Believers to Embrace Thanksgiving for God's Glory

The Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe, has called on Christians to embrace genuine thanksgiving that is centered on the glory of God rather than on human beings.

The Bishop made the remarks while presiding over the Thanksgiving service and baptizing five grandchildren of Elder John Mugisha Nyindombi at St. Thomas Kakibaya Church of Uganda in Kakinga Archdeaconry.

Preaching from 2 Kings 5:1–15, Bishop Asiimwe urged believers to shun pride and embrace humility in receiving Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. He reminded the congregation that earthly titles, honors, and positions would not matter before God, as what matters is a personal relationship with Christ.

He explained that baptism is an outward sign of an inward transformation and should therefore not be treated as a mere ritual. He further noted that true repentance goes beyond confessing sin to include turning away from it.

The Bishop also cautioned Christians against merely practicing religion, describing religion as man's effort to know God, and encouraged them instead to cultivate a personal relationship with Him.

The Bishop warned against pride and self-glorification, noting that a lack of thankfulness dishonors God and promotes proud humanism and dependence on man rather than on God.

He said there is no room for self-exaltation in the Christian life because every testimony and thanksgiving should point to the Lord's work and bring glory to Him.

Speaking during the service, Elder John Mugisha Nyindombi expressed gratitude to Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe for honoring the occasion by baptizing his grandchildren. He said the thanksgiving service was also organised to thank God for the progress made towards the completion of the church building.

Elder Muhwezi encouraged Christians never to grow weary of thanking God, organized that just as God never tires of forgiving those who repent, believers should also never tire of expressing gratitude to Him through generous giving.

He also appreciated his son for ensuring that the children were baptized in their mother church despite travelling from the United States of America, saying it was something he had long prayed and hoped for.
