Bishop Onesimus Consecrates the Newly Constructed St. Peter’s Nyabiteete Church of Uganda
North Kigezi Diocese, Rukungiri – On 10th August 2025, the Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe, Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, officially laid the foundation stone and consecrated the newly constructed St. Peter’s Nyabiteete Church of Uganda in Buyanja Sub County, Rukungiri District.
The Bishop commended the leadership of Ven. Enock Karamuzi for mobilizing resources to complete the project and recognized the efforts of Ven. Capt. Jallon Atusinguza, who initiated the church’s foundation during his tenure in Nyabiteete Archdeaconry.
The special service, led by the Bishop and attended by clergy, included the consecration of the holy table, pulpit, baptismal font, and Holy Communion vessels. Bishop Onesimus prayed a blessing over the new sanctuary, declaring that the true gospel would be preached there, and rebuked all evil influences. He urged church leaders and believers to “keep the fire burning at the altar.”
Maama Florence Asiimwe, in her remarks, thanked all who contributed financially toward the construction. She urged Christians to surrender their hearts to God, noting that the heart is the first temple where He dwells.
Preaching from 1 Kings 8, Bishop Onesimus compared the presence of God in Solomon’s temple to the cloud that filled it when the Ark was brought in. He warned that a church building without God’s presence is like a mere club, citing examples of deserted cathedrals in the United Kingdom. He called on Christians to:
• Preach the true gospel for the renewal of people’s strength
• Prioritize importance and centrality of prayer
• Recognize and repent of their sins before God
Following the sermon, the Bishop made an altar call and 50 people received Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Saviour.
The guest of honour, Hon. Naboth Namanya, MP for Rubabo Constituency, praised the church for supporting government efforts and guiding society in economic, moral, and social development.
