Bishop Sheldon Mwesigwa Roots For Vocational Education

The Bishop of Ankole Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. Sheldon Mwesigwa has called for more investment in vocational education to boost employment and income generation.

The Bishop made gave advice while leading the thanksgiving service of Mbarara Junior School in Mbarara City. The school was celebrating excellent performance in the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) of 2022.

Bishop Mwesigwa noted that it is important to teach young people to acquire hands-on skills so that when they get out of school, they can create their own jobs or don’t find hardship searching for jobs.

The Bishop of Ankole Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. Bishop Sheldon Mwesigwa, says children need to be equipped with other skills other than just academics. He was concerned that most schools no longer focus on skilling but rather concentrate on just academics.

According to the head teacher of Mbarara Junior School, Nathan Mugume, who is also the Chairman of Mbarara City head teachers’ association, they organized the thanksgiving to appreciate God for His providence and guidance which saw the school perform well. He also cited good discipline and infrastructure as well as dedicated teachers.

He urged parents to continue guiding their children and supporting their education.

John Agaba, the chairman of the Board of Governors of Mbarara Junior School urged parents to always monitor their children when at home, to maintain discipline and hard work.

In the last 15 years, Mbarara Junior School has been one of the best-performing schools in the Mbarara district running the free Universal Primary Education (UPE) program.  It has an enrolment of 2,305 pupils.

The Province of the Church of Uganda through Ankole Diocese has recognized Mbarara Junior School for excellent performance in the province.
