
Bishop Sheldon Mwesigwa Tips Young Ugandans On The Need For Exercise
The Bishop of Ankole Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Dr. Fred Sheldon Mwesigwa has urged young Ugandans against living a sedentary lifestyle characterized by a lack of physical exercise which he said is causing many deaths arising from easily avoidable illnesses.
Bishop Mwesigwa advised on Thursday while addressing students from different schools in the diocese who participated in Bishop’s Tournament 2023 held at Bishop’s Tournament 2023 at the Mbarara High School playground.
The Bishop’s Tournament 2023 had different games such as football, netball, and volleyball. It climaxed at the Mbarara High School playground. The Bishop of Ankole Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Dr. Fred Sheldon Mwesigwa noted with concern that during a recent youth convention in the diocese, several young people checked their health status but 80 of them were found to be overweight.
The Diocesan Secretary, the Rev. Canon Edson Asaba, thanked Bishop Mwesigwa for starting the annual tournament which he said promotes talent identification and development and many young people have benefited from the tournament. Some youths have also earned an income from the tournament.
The Education Secretary Ankole Diocese, Rev. Canon Agasha Muhwezi, noted that Sports also improve discipline among students even in their academic careers.
The Rev. Canon Agasha reported that 32 schools participated in the tournament which started at a zonal level with students participating in football, netball, and volleyball for both boys and girls. Kashaka Girls emerged as champion in girls' Volleyball while Bugamba SS lifted the trophy for boys' Volleyball. Kashaka also won the Netball tourney while Ruharo Vocational Institute emerged champion for girls’ football and Mwizi took the boy's football trophy.
