The Minister of Science and Innovation, Hon. Dr. Monica Musenero has unveiled new plans to encourage the people of the Bukedi Sub-Region to adopt coffee and cocoa as their main cash crops, following a successful research study.

The Minister made these remarks during the launch of the Agricultural Expo 2025 at Zoe Farm and Fisheries in Akadot Sub-County, Tororo District.

The Minister of Science and Technology, Hon. Dr. Monica Musenero, has officially launched the 2025 Agriculture Expo, aimed at boosting agriculture in the region, with a particular focus on value addition. The launch event was hosted by Zoe Farms and Fisheries in Akadot Sub-County, Tororo District. The Minister emphasized that the gathering of the people from the Bukedi Sub-Region marks a significant milestone in the region's development.

Dr. Musenero stated that the expo is designed to provide opportunities for value addition to individuals in the agricultural sector.

She added that the Bukedi region will begin focusing on growing coffee and cocoa as the main cash crops, based on promising findings from a recent research study.

The Minister expressed disappointment with the people from Bukedi living in Kampala for not investing in their home region and challenged them to take a more active role in contributing to its development.

Simon Nichols Owino, the CEO of Zoe Farms and Fisheries, acknowledged that the Bukedi Sub-Region had been lagging behind in terms of cash crop production. However, he noted that they have now begun focusing on growing cocoa and coffee to boost the region's agricultural output.

He stated that as Zoe Farms, they are committed to supporting the Agriculture Expo in order to drive the development of the Bukedi Region.

Members of the MK Youth Initiative were also present at the launch in Bukedi Region and pledged to promote the cultivation of cashew nuts and macadamia in the area.

They revealed that they are working in partnership with various stakeholders to secure additional support, particularly in terms of providing seedlings.
