BOU Unveils Financial Inclusion Strategy For 2023-2028

In a groundbreaking move, the Bank of Uganda, in collaboration with strategic partners, has successfully unveiled Uganda's National Financial Inclusion Strategy II (NFISII) for the years 2023-2028.

The initiative aims to empower all Ugandans by providing access to a diverse range of high-quality and affordable financial services, ultimately enhancing their financial security.

Beyond fostering economic stability, the strategy is anticipated to generate employment opportunities, fostering gender equality, and promoting socio-eco nomic development according to Hon Matia Kasaija.

The first National Financial Inclusion Strategy 2017 -2022 focused on creating access to financial services, including the establishment of mobile money and banking agents, benefiting the entire Ugandan population. However, in this second phase, the spotlight shifts to deepening formal access from regulated financial institutions.

Hon Matia Kasaija the Minister of Finance while addressing at the launch noted some of the importances of financial inclusion.
However the Minister added that one of the biggest challenges is the overwhelming number of graduates from different institutions who flood the money seeking environment. He requested all stakeholders to create jobs for these seekers.

Michael Atingi-Ego the Deputy Governor Bank of Uganda echoed the commitment of this strategy to empower groups in need like small holder farmers, refugees, youth among others.

The Second Strategy according to Micheal will prioritize the expansion of access to savings, credit, pensions among other services.
