Capt. Mike Mukula Vows To Protect Soroti Golf Course Land
The wrangle over Soroti Golf Course has deepened.
Soroti Golf Club course is located along Soroti – Lira road, Soroti City, occupying approximately 40 acres.
In 2008, Pilgrim, reportedly approached Soroti Golf Club seeking a partnership to develop the Club.
Pilgrim proposed to rehabilitate the club, especially the golf course, and swimming pool, and at a later stage, build a hotel.
The trouble was sparked by attempts to put a foundation for a structure in the disputed Golf Land. This prompted the Soroti City authorities to come and demolish the foundation.
While addressing thousands of mourners from Oibuga Omodoi, Asuret Sub County, Soroti district during the burial of his uncle Martin Okochu, a retired medical worker of Soroti Regional Referral Hospital, Capt. Mike Mukula the NRM Vice Chairperson Eastern Region vowed to protect Soroti Golf Club land which is under Contention.
Mukula promises to take it head-on with anybody who attempts to grab Soroti Golf Club land located in the heart of Soroti city.
Mukula says he has the capacity and means to use to protect the Golf Course land which has reportedly been allocated to an investor.
Mukula on the other hand has called upon the Cultural institutions to come out join hands and protect the public green places in Teso.
Meanwhile, Paul Omer the Mayor of Soroti East noted that he realized that the encroachment of Soroti Golf Land started in 2004 when he was by then the Speaker of Soroti Municipality.
Omer says that Soroti Golf Land has the land title that is still running until 2062.
Omer adds that he was later shocked to hear that Shindi Holdings had also acquired a land title for Soroti Golf Course Limited.
Osborn Omoding, Project Officer CEO at Pilgrim Africa noted that the Uganda Land Commission leased the land to Soroti Golf Club Limited in 2009 for 49 years.
Omoding revealed that the case against Soroti City has been filed before the Soroti Courts of Law and investigations have commenced.
He noted that they are paying ground rent, lease offers, and premium fees up to date.
Soroti Golf Club used to have Squash games, a swimming pool, and Golf games.
However, the private developer has deployed people to guard the contested Soroti Golf Club land.
Part of the Golf Club land is also being used as a washing bay run by a private person.
