CDOS Trained On Human Rights
Community Development Officers (CDOs) from Rubanda District in Kigezi Sub-region have been encouraged to do all it takes to ensure that human rights is upheld in the communities they operate from.
The call came as the CDOs ended a one-day seminar on Human Rights conducted by the Kabale Regional Office of the Uganda Human Rights Commission.
Theopista Twembi, a Human Rights Officer from the Kabale Regional Office said that it was important to train the Community Development Officers (CDOs) in the promotion of fundamental human rights because they reach out to a large number of people in their day to day activities.
Twembi said that the UHRC Kabale regional office will consider taking the training to more areas within the Kigezi region for better results.
She asked the CDOs who have acquired the skills to be role models in their societies in the observance and promotion of human rights.
Mary Waguma, the Rubanda district speaker and Tophil Sabiiti, the district Community Development Officer noted that such a training is vital in equipping the relevant technical officers with human rights protection basics.
There have been many cases of the reported violation of human rights, including illegal arrests and torture and the accusing fingers have been pointed largely at security agencies such as the police.
