Chaos Arises As Traders Blame URA And Government For High Taxes Imposed On Goods

Traders around Kampala today gathered in a workshop organized by Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA) and Uganda Revenue Authority (URA).

The workshop was targeted to address concerns arising from the 2023/2024 budget. It was chaos when URA representatives stood to give a presentation on the new amendments in the Value Added Tax.

Traders blame Uganda Revenue Authority and the finance ministry for passing laws without consulting the citizens specifically the traders.

In the new VAT amendments, there was an 18% tax slapped on diapers which traders called inhuman because diapers according to them are utilized by vulnerable people like the elderly, sick and children who should be exempted from paying taxes.
