Church of Uganda Sends Relief Supplies to Nakivale Refugee Camp, Focuses on Women & Children

The Church of Uganda has taken a significant step in showing solidarity with refugees by dispatching a consignment of relief items to Nakivale Refugee Camp. Led by the Household and Community Transformation Department, this effort underscores the church’s commitment to supporting vulnerable populations affected by displacement.

Valued at approximately $30,000 USD, the relief package includes food supplies, hygiene kits, and basic household necessities. The initiative is supported by the Anglican Development and Relief Fund, as well as generous contributions from other stakeholders.

Rev. Canon William Ongeng, the Provincial Secretary of the Church of Uganda, emphasized that the decision to support Nakivale came after a recent visit to the camp. "Our focus is on helping women and children, who are the most vulnerable within the refugee community," he said during the flag-off ceremony, which was witnessed by the entire staff of the Provincial Secretariat.

Rev. Andrew Agaba, Director of Household and Community Transformation at the Church of Uganda, highlighted that the church’s work is driven by love and service. He called on the broader Christian community to continue supporting refugees through prayer, donations, and advocacy efforts.

Nakivale Refugee Camp currently hosts over 230,000 refugees, with 60,000 newly arrived this year alone. The Church of Uganda has expressed its commitment to expanding relief efforts to other refugee camps in the coming months, reaffirming its dedication to alleviating suffering and supporting those in need.
