Civil Societies Join Forces To Save Bugoma Forest

The partnership between Uganda Joint Christian Council and Climate Action Network is aimed at the reforestation of Bugoma forest with a plan to plant over Five thousand indigenous trees.

They also plan to advocate for more funding from the central government and donors to provide direct service to the local people. However, the environmentalists say they face a lot of challenges while protecting Bugoma Forest.

Locals in Nyairongo village have noted that they are committed to identifying and planting the indigenous trees like in their community to mitigate climate changes.

Desire Mulenze-Chairperson Nyairongo LCI ( As the chairperson of Nyairongo, I have already written a proposal requesting authorities to let my locals be given a chance to replant the forest as it was directed by NEMA to Hoima Sugar ltd, when these NGOs NAVODA, AFIEGO support my locals, they will do it.

According to the 2019 report on Environment degradation in Uganda by Umoja Conservation Trust, Uganda loses about 35% of its natural resources to encroachment, bad land Management through poor farming practices, and poor waste management.
