COU Commits To Plant 40M Trees To Save Environment

The province of the Church of Uganda has committed to planting over 40 million trees as a means of saving the environment through environmental conservation.
The commitment has been made by the Rev. Andrew Agaba who is the director house household and community transformation in the province of the church of Uganda as a church of Uganda marked Africa Climate Week.
In his message, the archbishop of the church of Uganda The Most Rev. Dr. Samuel Kazimba Mugalu asked the government to fast-track the implementation of several policies that are meant to safeguard the environment like the National Environment Act 2019.
The archbishop earlier before the press conference led Christians in a cleaning drive that started from the provincial secretariat in Namirembe to the Nakulabye Kiwunya zone.
Climate change effects like drought, landslides and mudslides have continued to affect the African continent in recent years despite several calls to save the environment.
Countries like Uganda continue to engage in unfriendly climate activities like using plastic bags and plastic bottles and cutting down trees among other vices that are a major threat to the environment.
Many continue to drum for environmental conservation including the church of Uganda. In celebrations to mark Africa Climate Week, the province of the church of Uganda has committed to planting over 40 million trees in the next 5 years to save the environment.
The church has developed a policy on environmental management and climate change that guides the entire church in environmental conservation and climate change mitigation measures.
As a way of encouraging communities to keep clean and conserve the environment, the province of the church of Uganda led by the archbishop The Most Rev. Dr Samuel Kazimba Mugalu has today engaged in community cleaning in Kiwunya village Rubaga division.
The archbishop of the church of Uganda used the occasion to challenge the government to fast the implementation of several laws that have been enacted to conserve the environment
The Africa climate week is marked under the theme, of achieving a zero waste-free economy. Members of the public have been urged to resort to refusing to purchase what they don’t need, reduce waste production, reuse waste as well and recycle what can be recycled.
