Democratic Party To Strength Political Base At The Grassroots
Norbert Mao, the President General of the Democratic Party, has announced that the party has embarked on mobilization strategies to strengthen its political base across the country.
Mao, who addressed journalists at the DP headquarters, said that the party leadership has launched outreaches to different parts of the country, in a bid to recruit new members and re-energize Uganda’s oldest political party.
Ahead of the 2021 general elections, the DP suffered a massive exodus of members to the National Unity Platform (NUP) led by then-musician, turned-politician Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine.
Now, the President General of the Democratic Party, Norbert Mao, says the DP is seeking to revamp its membership ranks.
Mao used this media address to announce that the party is engaging its leaders at the grassroots across the Eastern, Central, Northern, and Western parts of Uganda for a huge mobilization drive.
On matters of national consensus, Mao said that Ugandan political leaders have degraded politics by refusing to negotiate with the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party yet it is in charge of the country.
On the Anti-homosexuality bill, Mao, who is also the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, advised that the government should consider the cultural values of Ugandans and implement strategies to prevent the spread of vice among young children.
