Disagreement Broke Out Among Acholi MPS Over Balalo Grazing In Acholi

A section of Acholi members of parliament led by the former Acholi parliamentary chairperson has rejected the proposal of verifying the Balalo by eviction.

The presidential directive to evict all the cattle headsmen (balalo) in the Acholi sub-region has divided the members of parliament from this region as some are disagreeing with the suggestion of extending the verification period for 14 more days.

The section led by the former chair has distanced itself from the appointment of the Acholi Parliamentary Group (APG) Chairperson hon Akol Anthony who doubled as a member of parliament for Kilak North as the vice chairperson of the committee formed to verify the Balalo eviction exercises.

Hon. Okin PP Ojara the Chua West member of parliament called for immediate suspension of the verification exercise.

Hon Gilbert Olanya the kilak south member of Parliaments condemned the delay of eviction saying that the headsmen entered the region illegally.

However, yesterday during a press conference organized by the Acholi parliamentary Chairperson hon Akol Anthony he noted that no eviction will take effect until the extended 14 days’ elapse.

It should be noted that in February this year, the president of Uganda HE Yoweri Kaguta Museveni issued an executive order to Balalo to leave the Acholi region however, the directive is yet to be executed.
