DP Urges Gov’t To Renew The Mandate For Local Councils At Least 6 Months

RITAH NANDERA.

The Democratic Party Secretary General Hon Siranda Gerald has called upon the government, through the Ministry of local government, and the Ministry of Justice and constitutions affairs to iron out the local council chairperson’s extension of terms in leadership together with the parliament to ensure that these local leaders can officially work legally after being accepted by the law.

He said this while addressing the journalists today at the DP headquarters at City House in Kampala.

Speaking during a press briefing at the city house in Kampala the DP party general secretary, Hon Gerald Siranda has urged the government to intervene in the elections of the local council leaders which is separated from the other elections of leaders.

The general secretary also added that there have been supplementary budgets for the elections, he therefore urged the local government to consider the same for the local council elections.

Meanwhile, on the mismanagement of funds by the FDC party leaders which led to separations of party members and general secretary Mafabi Nandela and The party president Amuriat Patrick, the DP party general secretary had this to say.

From 20th to 21 July the DP national council will hold its regional district meetings where all DP party members will present their reports on how the party has been operating and also adhere to the new policies which have been made by the party.
