Economists Urge Kigezi Locals To Embrace SACCOs

With many underscoring the extent to which Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies well known as SAACOs can change one’s life, economists in Kigezi led by Assistant Commissioner in charge of Urban Inspection in the Ministry of Local Government, Chris Niwandinda, notes that government is now set to assist farmers to shift attention from subsistence to commercial farming through such SACCOS.

Niwandinda applauded the Greater Kabale Sacco for working closely towards ensuring visible development of communities.

The chairperson board of directors for Greater Kabale Community Co-operative Society Limited, Eliab Naturinda Mporera said that the only way to develop the region is through mobilizing resources to assist the entire community.

Presiding over the event, the head of accounts at Makerere School of Law, Roland Mpirirwe appealed to the Sacco members and other stakeholders to consider saving and setting goals to achieve.

Some of the SACCO members appreciated the initiative for inspiring development in their communities

The 2019/20 household survey report indicates that due to SACCOs, household poverty declined slightly from 21.4% in 2016/17 to 20.4%, equivalent to 8.3 million people, while vulnerability remains above 40%1.
