
Electoral Commission Issues Guidelines For Serere County Parliamentary By-Elections
The Chairperson of the Independent Electoral Commission Justice Simon Byabakama has banned processions during the Serere County Parliamentary By-Elections.
This as he issued electoral guidelines during a stakeholders meeting at Serere district Headquarters.
In a joint stakeholders meetings held t Serere district headquarters, Electoral Commission Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama issued tough guidelines that will oversee the February Serere County by-elections.
Alice Asianut Alaso, the former Woman Member of Parliament for Serere district and a candidate in the by-elections wants security to exercise peace during and after the polls.
NRM electoral Commission Chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi pledged compliance with the party constitution during the electoral process.
The NRM flag Bearer Philip Oucor called for calm during the polls.
Engineer Martin Onguruco, also a candidate in the polls expressed worry on Electoral Commission delivering a free and fair electoral process.
The Serere County Parliamentary seat fell vacant after the demise of the former Member of Parliament Bishop Patrick Okabe, who perished in a motor accident together with his wife at Naboa in Budaka district along Mbale-Tirinyi road on December 19, 2022.
At least seven people including the son to the late Okabe have expressed interest to contest in the February polls.
