
Elephant Attacks Leave Kasese Farmers In Crisis Kasese Farmers Suffer Great Losses
Farmers in Kasese Municipality are grappling with severe financial losses as elephants from Queen Elizabeth National Park continue to raid their farms destroying crops and threatening their livelihoods. With the damage escalating, the farmers are demanding for compensation and immediate protective measures to safeguard their source of income.
Farmers in In Kasese Municipality are facing threats after having reported that elephants, which often stray from Queen Elizabeth National Park, have become a persistent threat, raiding farms at night and destroying large areas of crops, leading to significant financial losses and great danger to human kind
Despite constant appeals to the government for an electric fence along the park's boundary to prevent further invasions, their requests are still left unaddressed. After losses being incurred as a result of elephant raids, farmers are demanding compensation for the crops that have been destroyed.
In response to the farmers' concerns, Bashir Hanji, the Communications Officer for the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), acknowledged the challenges posed by wildlife and explained that the authority is working on rolling out fencing in some areas. However, he noted that financial and logistical constraints have hindered their efforts.
