Equity Bank Enrols Cohort 5 Scholars Into ELP: Top Senior Six Leavers Begin Transformative Journey Under Equity Leaders Program. Mentorship, Global Opportunities Shape Uganda’s Next Generatio

This year’s Cohort Five of top Senior Six performers has officially been enrolled into the Equity Leaders Program, as Equity Bank Uganda continues to invest in nurturing Uganda’s brightest students into future global leaders through mentorship, internships, and international academic pathways.

At the headquarters of Equity Bank Uganda at Janan Luwum Church House in Kampala, the newly selected scholars gathered to begin a life-changing journey under the bank’s Education and Leadership Pillar.

The program targets Senior Six leavers who excel in national examinations, selecting the best boy and best girl from districts where the bank operates. Each year, 100 top-performing students, including 50 boys and 50 girls, are enrolled on a structured mentorship and leadership pathway.

Derrick Kyamubade, Acting Pillar Head for Education and Leadership at Equity Bank, says the initiative aligns with the bank’s broader vision of promoting social and economic prosperity across Africa.

Scholars under the program receive pre-university internships, hands-on mentorship, and career exposure within the bank’s departments. They are also guided through the Equity College Counselling Program, which supports applications to global universities, including Ivy League institutions such as Harvard University.

He notes that the program, now in its fifth year since launching in 2022, has registered steady growth in both enrolment and impact.

Beyond academics and mentorship, scholars participate in community service through college chapters engaging in activities such as cleaning streets, supporting vulnerable communities, and visiting orphanages, promoting a strong culture of servant leadership.

Some of the Cohort Five beneficiaries expressed excitement about joining the program, describing it as a rare opportunity to transform their futures and expand their global ambitions.

The team later visited African Bible University in Lubowa, where scholars from previous cohorts shared their experiences and the impact the program has had on their academic and career journeys.

Many testified that the exposure, mentorship, and international opportunities have significantly broadened their horizons and shaped their leadership paths.

As Equity Bank Uganda continues to invest in young leaders, the Equity Leaders Program is fast becoming a powerful bridge between academic excellence, leadership development, and community transformation in Uganda.
