Faith Walk to Namugongo Launched Ahead of Martyrs Day: Youth Urged to Emulate Martyrs’ Courage and Faith. Security Tightened as Pilgrimage Preparations Gain Momentum

With Uganda Martyrs Day fast approaching, the Church of Uganda has launched a nationwide Faith Walk to Namugongo Anglican Martyrs Site, rallying young people to reflect on the sacrifice of the martyrs as security agencies and organizers intensify preparations for the annual pilgrimage.

Every year on June 3rd, millions of pilgrims converge at Namugongo Anglican Martyrs Site to commemorate the Uganda Martyrs young men who chose death rather than renounce their Christian faith.

Executed on the orders of Kabaka Mwanga II, their legacy continues to stand as a symbol of courage, conviction, and spiritual resilience.

As part of this year’s build-up, the Church of Uganda, through its Provincial Youth and Students Department, has unveiled the Faith Walk to Namugongo an initiative aimed at deepening spiritual reflection, especially among the youth.

The walk, scheduled for May 29th, was officially launched by the provincial treasurer Balaam Muheebwa, representing the Provincial Secretary, who emphasized the importance of young people actively participating in honouring the martyrs’ legacy.

Church leaders say the initiative is designed not just as a physical journey, but as a spiritual experience calling believers to renew their faith and commitment.

Meanwhile, security agencies have assured the public of safety during the walk and the main celebrations, urging pilgrims to remain vigilant and cooperative.

The Faith Walk is being organized in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, with stakeholders pledging full support to ensure a successful event.

Organizers say the initiative is a call to spiritual renewal, encouraging believers to draw inspiration from the martyrs’ unwavering faith.

As preparations for June 3rd gather momentum, the Faith Walk sets the tone for a pilgrimage defined not only by movement, but by reflection, unity, and devotion.
