Farmers Encouraged To Embark On Modernized Agricultural Practices In Bunyangabu

The state Minister for Gender and Culture Hon. Peace Mutuuzo has called upon residents in Bunyangabu to embarck of modernized agricultural practices if they are to manage to pay back the money that they acquired from the government as seed capital and also to widen their household incomes.

The minister revealed this during her tour where she also monitored government programs in the district.

The state Minister for gender and culture Hon. Peace Mutuuzo carried out a monitoring visit at the Kyeibumba youth art and craft association, Rumara Irish growing project and Rwimi rice growers project, in sub-counties of Kisomoro, Kateebwa and Rwimi town council.

According to Minister Mutuuzo, the youth livelihood fund program has performed well in Bunyangabu than Uganda women's entrepreneurship program, adding that they encouraged them to make more training on farming.

She advised the youth and women to always put government loan scheme money in proper use than using it to process passports to enable them to travel abroad and leave other members suffering to pay the money back.

The Uganda Women's entrepreneurship program (UWEP) and youth livelihood fund program (YLP)  focal persons, attributed the failure of the members to pay previous loans back to Covid 19 pandemic that affected them, adding that pests and diseases are continuously affecting the beneficiaries and some group members have disappeared with the money.

Some of the beneficiaries of these programs say though they haven't recovered the whole money loaned to them, they, however, testify that the projects have helped them get out of poverty.

The beneficiary further noted that much as they received seed capital from the government they still request more and they still lack a market for their products.

It should be noted that the government of Uganda has come up with several poverty eradication programs to help Ugandans get out of poverty and also boost their household incomes, such projects include yoga, and a parish development model among others.
