Farmers Urged To Pay More Attention To Laying Birds

Vegan Society Uganda, a  non-governmental organization, that advocates for reduced animal consumption, healthy eating habits, compassion towards animals and Environmental protection, carried out its  2nd workshop in Kampala for all farmers in poultry to regulate animal consumption and share knowledge on how they can be able to advocate for animal rights.

This workshop was presided over by The Humane League, Aurelia Ariyabo the coordinator of Open Wing Alliance in Kenya who urged all egg producers and farmers to consider the welfare of hens.

Vegan Society Uganda is committed to reducing animal and animal product consumption to 50% in Uganda by the year 2050 through Vegan meat options which are readily available, accessible, enjoyable and affordable to all Ugandans and Africans at large.

Vegan Society Uganda, have come out to raise awareness to all farmers dealing in poultry these suggest that eggs are to be cage-free.

Aurelia Ariyabo the coordinator of Open Wing Alliance in Kenya highlighted more on the objectives of this organization.

She added they believe in barn egg farming systems where hens are housed in large sheds with litter, and this is supposed to happen when the welfare of laying hens is highly prioritized.

Executive Director of Uganda Vegan Society Nabaasa Innocent said that it’s so challenging for them to create awareness since not all farmers have adopted the hen-free battery cage apart from the commercial farmers who have adhered to the systems.

Cou family TV talked to some of the framers dealing in poultry framing and these shared with us their take home on the knowledge they have received in the workshop. They promise to create awareness and bring changes to their farm.
