FDC Katonga Reject Najjanankumbi Delegates Meeting Saying It Was Illegal Under Party Constitution

PRIMA
The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Katonga faction has come out to reject the delegate's conference that was organized last week by party officials from the Najjanankumbi headquarters.

The Katonga faction's acting president Erias Lukwago said Justice Musa Sekaana never pronounced himself on the legality of the delegates conference before the case was disposed of.

The group’s spokesman, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda added that the meeting was illegal under party constitution.

They also announced that they will file an official complaint against Justice Musa Ssekaana to the Judiciary.

Following last week’s application for a temporary injunction blocking the delegates' conference at Najjanankumbi by the Katonga faction, the High Court Civil Division Judge Musa Ssekaana said it was brought in bad faith by the Katonga faction.

Addressing journalists at Katonga faction’s offices today, the FDC president, Erias Lukwago and the party spokesman, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda condemned the meeting held by the Najjanankumbi fraction on 6th October, saying that it was illegal under the party constitution.

Ssemujju added that they are set to put forth an official complaint against Justice Musa Ssekaana to the Judiciary, saying their case was handled in a flimsy manner.

Speaking on the resolutions set during the Katonga conference on 19th September, the acting president gave assurance that these are still intact including the formation of an interim leadership.

Trouble and confusion in the party started when Birigwa who is believed to have sided with Besigye led the group to accuse the Mafabi and Amuriat group (Najjanankumbi) of receiving what they describe as dirty state money. The said money is alleged to have been used by the party in the 2021 elections.

The factions have since been engaged in mudslinging as they battle for supremacy in the party which will in December 2024 make 20 years of posing active political competition to mostly the ruling NRM party.
