FDC Urges Ministry Of Education To Strengthen The Department Of Vocational Training
Following the release of primary living exams last week by the first lady who also doubles as the minister of education hon. Janet Kataha Museveni, UNEB reported that they registered a higher portion of pupils passing in division 3, and those ungraded at 88,269 (10.4%).
According to the Forum for Democratic Change, Najanakumbi chapter, the Ministry of Education needs to find other alternatives to help the candidates who didn’t perform well in UPE schools and engage them in practical and vocational skills for developmental growth and additional value.
Last week, the Ministry of Education released the results of Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) candidates who sat their exams late last year.
Out of the 749,254 candidates that were registered to sit, only 736,931 sat for their exams, and 1.6% of the candidates were absent during exams.
According to the report released by UNEB, they registered a higher portion of pupils passing in division 3 and those ungraded at 88,269 (10.4%).
There was a decrease in the number of male students registered at 47.75% (357,755), compared to girls at 391,499 (52.25%)
It is noted that UPE schools had the worst decline in performance ever witnessed and to address this matter, FDC believes that skilling these students who failed with vocational and practical training can help to reduce the increasing number of uneducated students who by the day getting involved in bad activities like theft rather than focusing only on education.
The party spokesperson added that the ministry also needs to analyze this situation and find out the cause of increasing poor performance every year. They add that teachers also need to be supported such that they honor their work and do it well since most of them are affected by poor services
During the 38th NRM victory day anniversary celebrations in Jinja, one Moses Ssimbwa, an accident victim confessed to Museveni how he was used by the opposition to the mudsling government and was tortured by the Ugandan government. On this matter, the FDC spokesperson says that it was rude to mention the government name in public which may hinder the process of marketing Uganda to other countries.
They appealed to the government to take the initiative of investigating and arresting the people who were responsible for the act of torturing Ugandans.
