Fight Against Flooding In Bwaise:Community Initiative Targets Flooding In Bwaise.

Residents of Bwaise have launched a community-led initiative with Sisterhood Chain International to combat local flooding by improving waste management. The campaign supports clean drainage channels by providing waste bins, protective gear, and a digital platform for reporting drainage issues.

To mitigate severe flooding caused by poor waste disposal, residents of Bwaise—a low-lying Kampala neighborhood—have partnered with Sisterhood Chain International to conduct community clean-ups and improve local waste management.

To address drainage blockages, the foundation donated waste bins, educated residents on proper waste disposal, and launched a mobile app that allows locals and leaders to photograph and report clogged channels directly to authorities for quick intervention.

Project partners also donated cleaning tools and protective gear to support the exercise, saying the equipment will enable volunteers to safely participate in clean-up activities while reducing the risk of disease.

Residents welcomed the intervention, saying community participation will be key to ensuring the success of the campaign.

The initiative is expected to strengthen collaboration between residents and local leaders in promoting proper waste disposal and maintaining clean drainage systems as part of wider efforts to reduce flooding in Kampala.
