The Kabaka of Buganda, His Majesty Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II will personally grace his 68th birthday celebrations in Bulange, Mengo on Thursday 13th April 2023.

This was revealed by the Katikkiro of Buganda Kingdom Prime Minister, Owekitiibwa Charles Peter Mayiga during a press conference at the Kingdom headquarters in Bulange, Mengo-Kampala.

The Katikkiro added that the Kabaka, who has been out of the public for several months now, will also later flag off the Kabaka’s birthday marathon on Sunday 16th April 2023 from his palace at Lubiri, Mengo.

Buganda Kingdom celebrates Kabaka’s birthday on the 13th of April every year. The 2023 celebration of Kabaka’s 68th birthday will be held at the King’s palace in Lubiri, Mengo on Thursday.

The Katikkiro of Buganda, Owekitiibwa Charles Peter Mayiga who addressed a press conference at Bulange, Mengo, said that the Kabaka will personally grace 68th birthday celebrations. This will be the first time the Kabaka appears in public for several months. The Katikkiro said the number of guests will be limited to a few guests.

The Kabaka will again appear in public on Sunday 16th April 2023 as he officially flags off the participants for the Kabaka’s 68th birthday run under the theme: “The fight to end HIV/AIDS by 2030,” intended to raise awareness and strengthen efforts to fight the HIV/Aids epidemic in Buganda and Uganda in general.

The theme for this year's birthday has been carried over from last year due to the urgency to ensure that fewer people contract HIV/AIDS since it is preventable. This is the message Katikkiro underscored as one of the ways of taking Buganda forward socially and economically.

Owekitiibwa Daudi Mpanga, who is the head of the organizing committee for Kabaka’s birthday celebrations, said that only 250 people have been invited to for birthday event that starts at midday on 13th April 2023. Mpanga is also the Minister for Special Duties in Buganda Kingdom.
