Gender Committee Decries Cross Border Female Genital Mutilation

The Parliament committee on gender has presented a report that reveals the prevalence of cross border Female Gender Mutilation.

Gender Committee Chairperson Hon. Flavia Kabahenda says many girls and women have undergone FGM procedures in Kenya due to porous borders.

The Committee also found that the lack of secondary schools in Moroto, Amudat, Kapchorwa, Kween Tororo and Jinja has led to early and forced marriages, sexual exploitation and early pregnancies.

Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa has directed the Prime Minister to do “an inter-ministerial coordination and in 6 months come back with a comprehensive action taken report on issues raised by the members and the committee.”
