Ggaba Murder Trial Resumes As CCTV Evidence Presented
The High Court has resumed its sitting in Ggaba to hear the case against Okello Christopher Onyum, accused of murdering four children at Ggaba Early Childhood Development Centre. Court proceedings focused on expert CCTV analysis and witness testimony, as prosecutors presented evidence tracing the suspect’s movements before the alleged crime.
The court session began at 10:00 a.m., with the first witness, Mr Odongo, presenting himself as an expert in CCTV analysis and submitting his report before the court.
The judge first asked him to explain how CCTV systems operate, and he clarified that different cameras capture varying types of images depending on their configuration.
He told the court that before the alleged crime, the accused stopped at Renewal SACCO, where he accessed camera footage, adding that he also analysed police surveillance systems.
Under cross-examination by lawyer Muwanga, he further explained the findings from the reviewed footage.
Odongo then played extracted footage before the court, showing how the vehicle allegedly used by the accused moved from Kyanja to Renewal SACCO, where it stopped near the scene of the alleged crime.
Another witness, Assistant Inspector of Police Mutaka Jim, testified that he visited Ggaba Early Childhood Development Centre, the scene of the alleged crime, and outlined the actions taken during the investigation.
He told the court that during the arrest, the accused allegedly threw a knife outside the fence, which he later observed and photographed as part of the evidence.
Another witness, identified as James, a police investigator who interrogated the accused at the station, testified that Okello admitted to having visited the area several times before the alleged incident.
He added that the accused stated that while still at the scene, he noticed people gathering and, out of fear, called the police emergency number 112.
James further testified that during investigations, items recovered from the accused’s residence included two passports in his name, a driving permit, medical documents, and letters from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The case was adjourned to tomorrow, April 21st, 2026, at 9:00 a.m., with the accused further remanded until then.
