Government Encourages Peaceful Coexistence Between Investors, Host Communities: Leaders Urge the Indian Community to Embrace Ugandan Culture.Indian Investors Call on Government to Address Tax

The State Minister for Trade and Cooperatives, Hon. Sanjay Tanna, has urged members of the Indian community in Uganda to strengthen their relationship with the communities where they live and invest more in the country's economy. The minister made the remarks while meeting members of the Indian community in Jinja, where they also thanked President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for appointing one of their own to a ministerial position.

Hon. Sanjay Tanna appealed to the Indian community to embrace Uganda's rich culture and traditions, saying understanding the customs of the communities where they live promotes peaceful coexistence and strengthens national unity.

The minister commended President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for maintaining peace and stability in the country, noting that the conducive environment has attracted investment and created employment opportunities for many Ugandans.

Hon. Tanna further encouraged Indian investors to increase their investments in Uganda instead of keeping their savings in foreign banks. He described Uganda as a safe and welcoming investment destination and urged investors to explore untapped sectors such as mining and other productive industries.

The Member of Parliament for Tororo Municipality, Hon. Shyam Tanna, commended Indian industrialists in Jinja for their contribution to Uganda's economic development through investment and job creation. He also urged members of the Indian community to continue living in harmony with Ugandans.

Representatives of the Indian community appealed to the government to address challenges affecting investors, including high taxation on production and difficulties facing the sugar industry. The concerns were presented by Madhvani Group company secretary Ayenga Krishna.

The Chairman of the Indian Association of Uganda, Piuch Kotocha, reaffirmed the association's commitment to supporting Ugandan communities through corporate social responsibility initiatives in education, healthcare, and economic empowerment.
