Government Installs Security Monitoring Systems On Lake Albert
The government has established a surveillance security system that will monitor security on the whole of Lake Albert.
This aims at solving issues of Congolese militia kidnapping the Ugandan fishermen and the Congolese fishermen trespassing into Uganda waters.
While addressing the security meeting held at the Kaiso landing site in Kabaale Sub County in Hoima district on Friday, Lt Col. Kaija the head of fisheries protection unit in Uganda revealed that the system will help them monitor all the activities taking place on Lake Albert.
According to Lt. Col. Dick Kaija the Head of the Fisheries Protection Unit in the Country, this will solve the issue of Congolese Militia kidnapping the Ugandan Fishermen and the Congolese Fishermen trespassing into the Ugandan Waters.
While addressing a security meeting held at Kaiso Landing Site in Kabaale Sub-County Hoima District, Lt. Col. Kaija revealed that the Surveillance Security System will help them monitor all the activities taking place on Lake Albert.
He adds that the system is still under construction and works are almost complete adding that it will soon be handed over to the government by the contractor.
Robert Ginyera and Nelson Albashir, the fishermen from the Mbegu Landing site, explain that they have so far lost about twenty fishermen in the area since the Kidnaps began.
Pius Wakabi the Bugahya County Member of Parliament says fishermen have suffered a lot on the lake by being kidnapped by the Congolese Militia men and have incurred many losses.
He hopes that the installation of the Surveillance Security System will give them relief.
Rogers Mbabazi, the Hoima Resident District Commissioner, and his Deputy Michael Kyakashari have welcomed this initiative by the Central Government of putting in place mechanisms to maintain security on the lake.
Since 2017 Congolese Militia Men have been kidnapping Ugandan Fishermen on the lake confiscating all their belongings and also asking for Ransom in order to release them.
