Government Intensifies Fight Against Respiratory Infections

The Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation has officially announced two herbal medicines that underwent medical procedure and have been proven safe and effective in treating acute respiratory illness.
This was revealed by Dr Monica Musenero during the media press briefing at Uganda media center, comfort to thousands of people in the country suffering from obstructive pulmonary disease mostly in rural areas.
Approximately 3.9 million deaths of Ugandans are said to have been caused by Acute Respiratory tract infections globally.
In Uganda ARTIs has remained the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in children under the age of 5 years, accounting for about 9%of deaths and sickness.
To address this, challenge the ministry of science, technology and innovation in collaboration with Bustima University and Makerere university lung institute carried out the first clinical trial of herbal medicine to improve the general health of Ugandans, mostly to treat Acute Respiratory tract infections.
Addressing the journalists dry Monica Musenero in her statement revealed that the herb medicine underwent clinical trials noting that the potential of the drug is emphasized noting that more 6 drugs are still on hold.
Dr Monica stated that the government will meet the costs of the two herbal drugs and the Uganda national drug authority is to license the medicine for approval before they release it on market.
Some of the doctors who tested the drug explained that the process took them three years of rigorous testing and cross-checking to ensure the drug's safety and efficacy before being released to the public.
