Government On Spot For Sending 71 Delegates To The Un Assembly

Ramson
The shadow minister for foreign affairs who is also Kyadondo east member of parliament Muwada Nkunyingi has put the ministry of foreign affairs on the spot for sending two delegations to represent Uganda at the 78th UN General Assembly in Newyork, USA.

Two groups consisting of 71 members, one led by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja and the other led by the Vice President Jessica Alupo have spent a week in the United States representing Uganda at the general assembly

Muwadda says Gen. J J Odongo and his team should be held accountable because they are responsible for guiding on such matters.
In a press conference held at parliament today, the shadow minister for foreign affairs expressed his dissatisfaction after the government of Uganda sent a delegation of up to 71 members to represent the country at the 78th UN General Assembly in New York.

Muwada revealed to journalists how different ministers in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a list of delegates representing the country at the general assembly.

The two groups, one led by the prime minister Robinah Nabbanja and the other led by the vice president Rtd. Maj. Gen Jessica Alupo is said to have been authorized by different ministers to attend the meeting in question

Muwada sights waste of public funds in such activities as each member is said to be entitled to a per diem of 3.5 million shillings, in addition to expenses on air tickets and, accommodation among others

According to Muwada, some of the officials are said to have taken advantage of the size of the delegation to include their relatives specifically pointing at the state minister for foreign affairs Okello Oryem who went along with his wife
To Muwada’s dismay, some of these had no role to play at the UN general assembly. This he says explains why some of them have been barred from accessing the venue spending all the time in their hotel rooms at the expense of the taxi payers' money.
Muwada now wants Gen. JJ Odongo and his counterparts in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to be held accountable for failing to advise on government on such issues
According to the shadow minister, such funds could have been used to help Ugandans stranded in the Arab countries and Europe.

There are reportedly 96 Ugandan girls held in different prisons in UAE on mental grounds and others are reportedly barred from leaving that country for different reasons
The 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly opened on September 5, 2023, with High-Level Week taking place September 18-22 in New York.
